A few days ago I had two computers that contracted the conficker virus (Spyware Protection 2009 variant) both computers were running up-to-date virus programs but I somehow still managed to get the stupid virus. I shut both down and did a total HD wipe and then reinstalled all my programs. While I was doing these reinstalls apparently a hacker erased my entire website. Before he did he sent me an email through my blog contact link telling me how I had ruined his internet business.
This hacker had used my old quotes db for AOcrush.com to post 100s of links for porn and drug purchase sites, then he posted links back to the DB on a whole bunch of forums and guestbooks. (I am still confused how one makes money from such things)
At the suggestion of a friend I had opened an Adsense account and posted a few ads on this site. (I wasn't really expecting to make much money but I thought it couldn't hurt to give it a try) Sometime during all the hacking and site erasing and my hours of reinstalling my blog site and computer programs Adsense closed my account claiming my site was "significant risk" to their AdWords advertisers.
I figured it was just a result of the site being erased and I contacted them via their email address to explain about the hacking, and that I was working to restore the site and all should be back on track. So far all I've received is automated responses, and their doesn't seem to be anyway to talk with an actual human. So I started looking through their site and found a section devoted to people asking about their accounts being disabled. It seems a very large number of folks got the same exact letter as I did and their is no way to actually talk to anyone at Adsense. Which makes one wonder if Adsense is really all that concerned about customer service.
Anyhow I am not going to worry about it much. I have taken steps to up the security on my site and to increase the security on my computers. And I can now get back to ranting about the politiclowns in Washington. Its still a wonder to me how a guy half way around the world was able to wipe a website and destroy an Adsense account with a few strokes of the computer keys.
life in cyberspace sometimes is very interesting indeed...
